What is the RelieVRx® program?

I'm not sure I understand what virtual reality is.

Virtual reality, or VR, is the name for computer technology that makes you feel like you’re somewhere else. It includes images, sounds and sensations that make you feel like you’re really part of this other place. This technology requires special equipment which we provide to you as part of your RelieVRx prescription.

How long does the program last?

The program will last 56 sessions, and the average time for each session is 6 minutes. Each day you should complete a therapy session. Most patients complete the program within 3 months. You’ll be provided with prepaid packaging to return the device at the end of the program.

Will my information be kept private?

Yes, your information will only be used or shared as permitted or required by law as described in our privacy notices. AppliedVR, the RelieVRx program's manufacturer, maintains HITRUST certification and uses reasonable and appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information.

Will my information be shared?

We may share your information as permitted or required by law, including sharing information about your progress with the healthcare provider treating you. We may also share information about you to your health insurance plan so that it will pay for the services. Other permitted uses and disclosures are described in our privacy notices.

How do I get The RelieVRx Program?

The RelieVRx program is a prescription medical device. You will need to speak with your healthcare provider to determine if the RelieVRx program is right for you. Your healthcare provider will submit a prescription. Once we have processed your prescription, we’ll send you a device and instructions to help you get started.

How do I set up the device?

Your device is pre-loaded with the RelieVRx therapeutic program. No additional equipment is required.

Set up is as simple as sitting, turning on the device, and placing it on your head. An instruction card will be included in the device shipment.

It is important you follow the provided instructions and connect to WiFi. Though WiFI is not required, connection will help you get the most out of your therapy. It is quick, easy, and once you’ve done it the device will connect automatically for all future sessions.

Why is the program 56 sessions and for about 6 minutes a day?  How did you come up with those numbers?

The RelieVRx program was evaluated in a 56-session clinical trial with 188 participants. The clinical trial was designed using similar content to what is currently provided through the RelieVRx program, and at the end of the 56-session trial, significant pain reduction was seen by those who used the RelieVRx program compared to the non-immersive content.

When should I start RelieVRx therapy?

You should start therapy on the day that is most convenient for you. As with any therapeutic program, it is important that once you start you settle into a regular routine to make sure you are doing your therapy regularly to get the most out of it.

When should I use the RelieVRx program? Is there a specific time of day recommended?

You should set a routine that is most convenient and fits into your daily life. This may make it easier to maintain your therapy (treatment) schedule.

What happens if I miss a day/session?

If you miss a VR session, please continue where you left off and complete 1 session per day.

Will skipping a session impact my treatment results?

If your healthcare provider or an AVR Pathway team member recommends you skip a session due to physical or mental discomfort, there is no evidence that this will reduce the overall treatment effect of the program. As long as you continue and complete the program, the treatment will be effective overall.

How do I return the device?

Once you have completed your therapy you must return your RelieVRx device. In your box, a prepaid return shipping label has been provided. To return the RelieVRx kit, place all RelieVRx program contents back in the original packaging box. Adhere the shipping label to the box, and drop it off at your nearest FedEx location.

Note: If you do not have the original packaging box, please use another preferred box. If you have lost the shipping label, please reach out to the AVR Pathway support team for assistance.

Indication for Use The RelieVRx program is a prescription-use immersive virtual reality system intended to provide adjunctive treatment based on cognitive behavioral therapy skills and other evidence-based behavioral methods for patients (age 18 and older) with a diagnosis of chronic lower back-pain (defined as moderate to severe pain lasting longer than three months). The device is intended for in-home use for the reduction of pain and pain interference associated with chronic lower back pain.
